Stocking Ideas For 30 Gallon?

I'm still in the research phase here, but wanted to know what everyone would recommend for a fresh water 30-gallon tank? I maxed out the pet limit at my house, 2 dogs and a 10-gallon tank, so i asked my boss if I could keep a 5-gallon betta tank at work.
